Reports in Italy claim that Roma are ready to terminate Kostas Tsimikas’ loan spell and hope to replace the Liverpool-owned defender with Fiorentina’s Niccolò Fortini.

Roma have already given Gian Piero Gasperini attacking reinforcements with Robinio Vaz from Olympique Marseille and Donyell Malen from Aston Villa, so the Giallorossi will now focus on other departments.

TMW reports that Liverpool loanee Tsimikas is not part of the Giallorossi’s plans for the second part of the campaign so the Serie A side are ready to send the Greek defender back to Liverpool.

Sky Sport Italia also reported last week that Tsimikas’ return to Liverpool is a likely scenario if Roma sign a new left wing-back this month.

Fiorentina’s Fortini is probably Roma’s main target on that side of the pitch, but according to TMW, the Tuscans have rejected an opening €8m bid from the capital. Fiorentina’s asking price is reportedly set at €15m.

The promising defender is also being chased by Juventus and it’s been reported that he won’t extend his contract expiring in June 2027 at the Stadio Franchi.

Tsimikas has only collected 600 minutes across all competitions, making 15 appearances with Roma.

The 29-year-old struggled with playing time despite Angelino’s health issues. The Spaniard, who is technically Roma’s left wing-back, was diagnosed with asthmatic bronchitis in October and hasn’t returned to action since.

“It’s a medical issue on which I musta maintain the utmost confidentiality because it concerns health. It is a health problem,” Gasperini said earlier in January.

“We all hope that he can get everything sorted out and be well, and return to playing.”
