Reported Inter Milan and Napoli target Lorenzo Pellegrini says that he “never thought about leaving” Roma.

The 28-year-old spoke to the Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

Pellegrini is one player whose future has been at the centre of some speculation in recent weeks.

The Roma captain has not found much in the way of playing time under Claudio Ranieri.

Therefore, some clubs in Serie A have reportedly considered the possibility of signing the former Sassuolo midfielder away from the Italian capital.

Inter have been among the clubs linked to Pellegrini. As have their title rivals Napoli.

Meanwhile, the idea of a swap deal has also come up.

The Nerazzurri could reportedly offer Davide Frattesi, while Napoli could send Giacomo Raspadori to the Stadio Olimpico.

However, Pellegrini started against Lazio last weekend.

And in the most important fixture of the Giallorossi’s season, the derby, the captain broke the deadlock with a memorable goal.

This has changed the atmosphere significantly. It now seems clear that Pellegrini will stay and look to nail down a starting place.

The player himself claimed that he’s “never” thought about a departure.

“I’ve had a number of difficult moments,” Pellegrini noted. “But also great ones.”

“But I’m not one to run away from my problems,” the Italian international assured.

“I believe that when faced with difficulties, one must assume responsibility.”

“And that’s what the coach saw in my eyes before the derby,” Pellegrini said. “There, a normal moment can become beautiful.”

“A beautiful one even moreso, and a negative one turns into a disaster.”

Pellegrini reflected, “This is Rome, it lives off of passion.”

“And I live that passion a hundred percent here,” the Roma captain said.
