Romain Del Castillo heads back to Lyon with Brest on Sunday at 20:45, matchday 18, intent on making his mark where he was developed. Team-mate Lucas Tousart also returns.
According to L'Équipe, his standout display came against Lyon in April 2024, a 3-4. He hit a brace without celebrating and added an assist, earning 9/10 as Brest went on to finish on the podium.
Since then he has sampled the Champions League and become integral. Coach Eric Roy has handed him penalties, he has converted five and has six goals this season. His personal best is eight, set in 2023-2024, though he is chasing greater influence beyond numbers. He turns 30 at the end of March.
Ligue 1+ analyst Benjamin Nivet views his willingness to take spot-kicks, including stepping up again straight after missing against Metz, as proof he can absorb pressure. For Nivet, he leads by reliability.
A switch from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 has not radically changed him. Nivet notes the presence of a number 10, such as Kamory Doumbia, aids combinations, while his connection with Kenny Lala remains key. Though capable centrally, Nivet feels he is most effective off the flank.
Nantes showed interest this winter but were unable to complete a transfer. Del Castillo is under contract until 2027 and is settled at Brest alongside close friend Hugo Magnetti. After a minor calf issue early in the week, he is expected to be fit, with about 15 relatives, most from Mions, due at Groupama Stadium.
