Roman Iaremtchouk’s first Lyon brace and a decisive cameo from Corentin Tolisso secured a 3-2 win over Auxerre on Saturday.

L'Équipe notes that the Ukrainian thrived as a penalty-box poacher, and Tolisso steadied OL when the game was in the balance.

Iaremtchouk shot wide on 14 but struck on 19, arriving onto Abner’s cross. After the break he was erratic with a heavy touch on 53. Tolisso replaced Morton around the hour at 1-1, swept in Maitland-Niles’ delivery for 2-1 on 66, then crossed for Iaremtchouk to make it 3-1 on 71.

Moussa Niakhaté marshalled Lyon’s back line, prominent in build-up and winning duels, with seven recoveries, a team-high. Late on he inadvertently diverted Okho’s strike for Auxerre’s second on 88.

Khalis Merah impressed again, his backheel sparked the move for the opener and he combined well with Afonso Moreira down the left. He made way for Pavel Sulc on 58, who had a quiet outing.

For Auxerre, Romain Faivre’s costly central turnover shifted the tempo against his side. He failed to affect proceedings in attack, missing two efforts, and was replaced by Ahamada on 75.

Gideon Mensah struggled against Endrick’s running and was booked on 84 after a rugged display. Marvin Senaya toiled defensively as Moreira and Abner found joy down his flank, before Lamine Sy came on on 59 with added purpose.

Danny Namaso offered pace and direct play alongside Sinayoko, but was cautioned for simulation on 52, having earlier seen a shot blocked by Mata on 13.
