Last week Chelsea managed to chip away at their remaining summer business by selling Renato Veiga to Villareal.

They’ll hoping to be able to add at least one done deal to that one this week – and the best possibility right now looks like Axel Disasi’s move to Bournemouth.

Bournemouth “confident” on finally landing powerful Chelsea defender

Fabrizio Romano on Axel Disasi’s Bournemouth move.

The central defender has been for sale all summer with very little interest. But recent weeks have seen the Cherries emerge as favourites, and according to Fabrizio Romano’s latest update, things are moving forward.

The Italian insider says that “direct contact” between Chelsea and the South Coast club has been made, with both parties working on the “formula” that keeps everyone happy.

Chelsea are keen to only agree to a sale rather than a loan, and it looks like they will get their way. For their part, Bournemouth are said to be “confident to make it happen.” They’ve been stripped of their two best options at centre back this summer and need reinforcements immediately.

Wolves are still reportedly interested, but right now all signs are pointing towards a Disasi to Bournemouth move, perhaps as soon as this week.

Chelsea to struggle for profit on expensive investment

Chelsea paid an eye-watering £39m for Disasi, which seemed a crazy sum even at the time. That will make a profit impossible, but minimising our loss on the France international is what matters now. While the clubs haven’t finalised anything, we can see a final fee of just under £30m plus some bonuses and add ons keeping everyone happy.

With Disasi gone, only Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling will be left on the “must sell” list from the start of the summer. That’s good progress, with more than a week left in the window.
