World Cup winner Romário has reiterated that he wished he had played for Corinthians. “Very much. I have always liked Corinthians, especially the fans,” he said, speaking on Hora dos Craques on Romário TV.

Although he never represented a São Paulo club, the former striker has said before that he would have played for Corinthians. In 2021 he marked the club’s 111 years with a congratulatory message.

In 2017 he disclosed talks with Corinthians during the MSI era, but negotiations did not advance and the move did not happen. “That Iranian, Kia Joorabchian, was there and Andrés Sanchez was just starting out. It came very close to happening,” he recalled.

Domestically he played for Vasco, Flamengo, Fluminense and América-RJ, winning nine honours including the Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa Mercosul and Campeonato Carioca. Abroad he shone for PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona, lifting major national titles in the Netherlands and Spain.

He was the world player of the year in 1994 and won the World Cup with Brazil the same season. With Vasco he reached the 2000 Club World Cup final at the Maracanã, finishing runners-up to Corinthians.
