Romeu Tuma Júnior has taken indefinite leave from the presidency of Corinthians’ Deliberative Council after a court injunction suspended the 18 April General Assembly on statute reform at Parque São Jorge. According to Meu Timao, he alleged in the filing a coordinated political effort to block members’ will.

Earlier on Monday, Corinthians confirmed the suspension following a judicial request by Felipe Ezabella, a triennial councillor and member of the Conselho de Orientação (Cori). Tuma accused club president Osmar Stabile of trying to thwart the overhaul and of using a third party to bring the case, branding him a traitor.

He also argued the executive board brought deadlines forward to obstruct the vote during the assessment window. Tuma condemned what he described as illegal pressure and harassment of staff and said he would not be part of such a manoeuvre.

With Tuma on leave, vice-president Leonardo Pantaleão assumes the council’s top post. The Electoral Commission had already set procedures for the ballot and begun logistical preparations.

The draft statute seeks to align the club with the Lei Geral do Esporte, update governance and strengthen financial responsibility. It also proposes Fiel Torcedor voting rights, regulation for a potential Sociedade Anônima do Futebol and changes to the council and its committees.

The process has been fraught since late 2025, when councillors said they lacked access to documents, delaying the vote and prompting 11 public hearings through 2025 and 2026. In March 2026, a council meeting ended early after remarks by Stabile and no vote was held.

Days later, Stabile sought Tuma’s removal via the Comissão de Ética e Disciplina and convened an extraordinary meeting that approved a provisional suspension, which Tuma and Pantaleão did not recognise. Tuma later reported Stabile and legal deputy William Tapara to the Ministério Público de São Paulo (MP-SP) for alleged false testimony and coercion, and prosecutor Cassio Roberto Conserino asked MP-SP to open a civil inquiry into a possible judicial intervention at the club.
