Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has warned that Memphis Depay must reach peak fitness to make the final 2026 World Cup squad.
According to Globo.com, Koeman said the Corinthians forward is not yet fully over his right thigh injury and that only eight weeks remain, so they will have to wait and see.
He added that they held a constructive discussion about the busy spell ahead, with matches every three days, and that Depay needs to be at his best or he will lack the capacity to be decisive for the Netherlands.
Depay travelled to the Netherlands early last week to begin treatment on a grade two muscle injury in his right thigh.
Omitted from the national team’s friendlies during the FIFA window, he is expected to miss around four weeks for Corinthians, including their first two Conmebol Libertadores matches and a derby against Palmeiras.
The 32-year-old has one goal and one assist in 12 appearances this season.
