Rony has said goodbye to Atlético Mineiro as a move to Santos edges closer. The player said in a post that he was leaving the club, expressing gratitude to the Galo supporters and staff.
In his message, he thanked Atlético for the opportunity, recalled important moments and a trophy, and said he wished he had achieved more. He also paid tribute to coaches, employees, fans and team-mates, and said he departs with respect, lessons and fond memories.
The negotiation between Atlético and Santos should be around 3 million euros, plus bonuses, tied to a three-year deal already aligned with the player.
At 30, the former Palmeiras forward would be Santos’s third signing for 2026 and is an option to fill the vacancy left by Guilherme, who has been sold to Houston Dynamo in the United States.
Rony joined Atlético in February last year, playing 65 games and scoring 14 goals after arriving from Palmeiras. The investment was about 6.5 million euros, split 50% to Palmeiras, 35% to Athletico-PR and 15% to Rony.
His spell unfolded amid tension. Last year he filed a legal action to rescind over delayed payments, then withdrew and stayed, and relations with the fanbase worsened until his definitive exit.
