Liam Rosenior’s pre-match presser for the West Ham game today had some interesting notes. Right up front, he was asked about Cole Palmer’s status for the game.
“Cole is fine,” the manager responded when asked about how the attacker had come through his 45 minutes in midweek.
“He came through the other night with two assists and an outstanding performance [vs Napoli]. He is available to start tomorrow [against West Ham] and of course, we are really happy about that.”
Just because he’s available to start doesn’t mean he will – in fact, we think it’s more likely he gets another 45 minutes as the club carefully bring him up to speed. We’d be perfectly happy with that.
Or perhaps he starts and plays 60 minutes? It’s hard to know exactly what approach the club will take with this chronic issue.

On the subject of another missing player, Rosenior had another good update
“Tosin was back out on the pitch today doing his individual rehab,” the manager said.
While he won’t be ready tomorrow, it sounds like a matter of days until he’s back with the group. That timetable makes it interesting that there’s seemingly such urgency to bring another player in at the back this month.
Levi Colwill is another significant defensive figure who is out right now, and Rosenior’s update on him was really exciting. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves but it sounds like his ACL rehab is ahead of schedule.
Chelsea have got themselves into a sticky situation with two of their loan defenders. One they brought back, one they want to bring back. But it’s not going as they planned. It looks like more amateur hour stuff from the sporting directors so far.
