Liam Rosenior has revealed that Chelsea have held “detailed conversations” about potential transfers as they seek to devise a plan ahead of the summer window.

The Blues are likely to be very active in the market again as they look to improve the squad in key areas.

Despite spending up to £1.5 billion on new signings since Clearlake Capital took over the club in 2022, the team evidently needs upgrades based on recent performances.

Rosenior’s side were beaten 3-0 at home by Manchester City on Sunday, their third consecutive defeat in the Premier League, showing they are still lagging behind the best clubs despite years of substantial investment.

“We’ve had, even over the last week, lots of detailed conversations about what we need to look like moving forward from the summer window,” the Chelsea boss said.

“You talk about all different aspects of the game, physicality, technicality, positional things. They’re all things that we’re in talks in and we know what we want to improve and we know where we want to improve in the summer.”

Rosenior is coming under increasing pressure following a series of poor results that have damaged Chelsea’s chances of finishing inside the top five. Failure to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League would hamper their ability to spend in the transfer window – and put the head coach’s job at risk.

“I need to win in this moment,” he admitted. “This is a huge football club. When I first came, I never asked for a lot of time because I understand this club. I understand the traditions and the history of this club.

“I would like to have that time. I’m confident that in that time, you can create something very, very special within the time that it takes, which even someone as experienced as Pep [Guardiola] or Jurgen Klopp when he won the titles he did at Liverpool, they had a year to sort things out. I’ve come in January.

“It’s not an excuse. It’s a reality. I need to win in the now. And that’s what I’ll be focused on.”
