After a slow start to the League One season, Rotherham United have turned a corner in recent weeks and made a surge towards the play-off positions as we head through November.

The Millers are in the thick of their first full season under the management of Matt Hamshaw, who was appointed in his first full-time managerial role back in April after a successful period as interim boss following the dismissal of Steve Evans.

The South Yorkshire side have, in recent years, become a stereotypical 'yo-yo' side between League One and the Championship, but were unable to mount an immediate promotion bid back to the second-tier with an extremely underwhelming 13th-place finish last time out, ending the campaign some 19 points behind sixth-place and eventual play-off finalists, Leyton Orient.

As such, there was a major squad overhaul conducted by Hamshaw in his first pre-season in charge at the New York Stadium, with 13 new arrivals compensating for the departure of 11 players, the majority of whom had also left on free transfers.

The Reds currently find themselves 12th in the third-tier standings after 15 games played, with a current six-game unbeaten run - of which four have ended in wins - seeing them rise to within four points of Lincoln City in sixth, who were on the receiving end of a 3-0 scoreline on Saturday afternoon.

With there now just a month-and-a-half until the reopening of the transfer window for a four-week period, clubs right through the EFL will have, undoubtedly, begun forward-planning towards a critical period in which season-defining adjustments can be made.

With that in mind, Football League World's Rotherham United fan pundit, Tom Eyre, outlined two players he would like to see his club strike transfer agreements for.

One of the aforementioned summer incomings saw Manchester United's young midfielder, Dan Gore, move back across the Pennines for a second loan stint, having initially joined Rotherham on a temporary basis in January under Evans following a prior spell with Port Vale in League Two.

After making just three appearances last season amid a hairline fracture within the foot, the deep-lying midfielder returned in July and has made 20 appearances across all competitions this term.

Gore posted his first assist of the campaign in Saturday's dominant success against Lincoln, but has so often kept play ticking over at the base of Hamshaw's 3-5-2 system, where he most recently featured alongside Shaun McWilliams and Ar'jany Martha.

When highlighting the fact he would love to see Rotherham strike a permanent deal for the England youth international with the Red Devils, a key factor was, indeed, the system which he helps function, as well as believing Charlie Webster of Burton Albion would be another dream addition.

"It's a really tough one, because every player we signed in the summer has proven their worth under Matt Hamshaw and in his system," Eyre told FLW.

"For me, having seen what's gone on and who's caught my eye, I'd have to say, if we could get Dan Gore on a permanent from Manchester United, even in January, that would be our best move of the season," he claimed.

"He's an absolute gem and is way better than League One. If not him, I love Charlie Webster at Burton Albion," Eyre stated. "Another player who I think is destined for better things than League One.

"He fits the bill for the type of player we want," our fan pundit explained. "Energetic, all-action, technical, good at set-pieces, chips in with goals and assists. He's got it all as a central midfielder.

"But, as I said, he's someone else who's destined for better than League One."

Charlie Webster has been a standout performer for Burton Albion

As Eyre alluded to, the aforementioned Webster has been a standout performer for the Brewers, who, like Rotherham, are in a rich vein of form of late under Gary Bowyer.

At 21 years of age, the all-action midfielder has proven exactly why he was previously on Chelsea's books before moving to Staffordshire last summer and continuing to showcase his current ability and potential.

With four goals and three assists thus far, Webster would certainly add further creativity and technical ability to Hamshaw's system, and with just over 18 months left on his contract at the Pirelli Stadium, is bound to have a plethora of potential suitors.

However, it remains to be seen if he would be swayed by the thought of remaining a League One player in the short-term, or if he believes he can now test himself at a higher level, such as the Championship.
