FC Bayern will be without Nicolas Jackson for the upcoming Bundesliga matches. The attacker has been banned for two games by the DFB sports court following his red card in the top match at Bayer Leverkusen
The incident occurred in the 42nd minute of the 1-1 draw at the BayArena. Jackson was late in a duel with Martin Terrier and hit the Leverkusen attacker hard on the ankle. Referee Christian Dingert initially only showed a yellow card, but corrected his decision after a tip-off from the VAR and sent off the Bayern striker
The DFB Control Committee subsequently deemed the action to be „rough play“ and imposed a two-match ban from the Bundesliga. The decision is already legally binding
The 24-year-old will therefore miss the German record champions‘ home game against Union Berlin next Saturday as well as the international break at SC Freiburg
The Senegalese has repeatedly been deployed as a backup for Harry Kane in recent weeks and has recently played an important role in Bayern’s attack, making his absence all the more serious in the crucial phase of the season
Shortly before the Jackson suspension was announced, there was another decision affecting FC Bayern: the DFB sports court rejected Munich’s appeal against Luis Díaz’s suspension
The Colombian had been sent off with a yellow-red card in the 84th minute of the same match. Referee Dingert himself later judged the decision to be too harsh. „When I see the pictures now, it’s not a penalty. Yellow-red is very harsh, I wouldn’t give it like that now,“ explained the referee afterwards
Despite this assessment, the decision stood. According to the presiding judge Stephan Oberholz, it was a factual decision by the referee that can only be corrected under very strict conditions
„The decisive factor is that the process is a factual decision that can only be corrected if it is serious, obvious and without any doubt objectively incorrect,“ explained Oberholz
These conditions were not met in this case, which means that FC Bayern will be without two attacking players – Jackson and Díaz – for the home game against Union Berlin.
