Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has said that ‘not even the Pope’ could make him change his tactics.

Amorim is under mounting pressure at Old Trafford after the club’s worst start to a Premier League campaign for 33 years.

The Red Devils have registered just four points from four top-flight matches, and they also crashed out of the League Cup after losing to League Two side Grimsby Town.

Despite the poor run of results, Amorim has refused to alter his tactics, drawing criticism from the fanbase.

Ahead of their home clash with Chelsea on Saturday, the Portuguese boss once again reiterated his determination to stick to his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.

Amorim told Manutd.com: “No, no, no. Not even the Pope or someone – it will not. This is my job and my responsibility, my life.

“I will not change that, but I will change the system – there will be an evolution, but we need to make all the good steps.

“If I am a player and I have a coach who has a lot of pressure, it doesn’t matter if they are all around the world, they are saying you need to change the system, and they will look at me differently.

“Everything, when you think about the impact a decision is going to have in the team, everything is important.

Amorim is facing serious scrutiny following the humiliating 3-0 derby loss to Manchester City last Sunday.

He currently has the support of the United board, but things can change quickly if results don’t improve soon.

Amorim faces a crucial home fixture with Chelsea this weekend, and he cannot afford to lose the match.

The Blues have not won at Old Trafford since May 2013, but they are one of only three unbeaten teams in the Premier League this season.

United have received a timely boost with Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount recovering from their fitness issues to be available for selection.

Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot remain sidelined due to their respective injury issues.
