Ruben Amorim is set to become Milan head coach on a contract running to 2028, according to Fabrizio Romano. The seven-time European champions have reached agreement with the Portuguese.
He will sign for two seasons to 2028, with an option for a further year. In Milan, the former Benfica player will earn three and a half million euros net per season, with bonuses for silverware and Champions League qualification.
Rafael Leão’s club have missed the Champions League in the past two seasons, finishing eighth in 2024/2025 and fifth in 2025/2026 in Serie A.
Amorim had planned to sit out this season, having turned down Benfica, but the Italians’ offer proved too persuasive.
The 41-year-old is awaiting final sign-off from Gerry Cardinale of Red Bird, Milan’s owner, before travelling to Italy to complete the deal. It would be his first spell in the country.
Matthias Jaissle, an Asian champion with Al Ahli, was also considered, but Amorim’s free-agent status, unlike the 38-year-old German who would require compensation to move, counted in his favour.
