Rummenigge: "Wirtz would have been better off at Bayern"
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge regrets Florian Wirtz's departure. The 22-year-old German attacking midfielder left Bayer Leverkusen for Liverpool in June for around £100 million, plus £16 million in bonuses.
Wirtz's start in the Premier League has been challenging, and he is still struggling to regain his top form. Bayern Munich had also tried to sign him. Rummenigge told Sport-Bild:
Honestly, in the case of Florian Wirtz, it still hurts, because I believe the player would have been better off at Bayern than at Liverpool.
However, the executive emphasizes that Bayern prioritizes financial prudence:
We want to succeed in sporting terms, but always in a serious and financially responsible way. We already have a top-level squad, and when our three currently injured players return, we'll have a fantastic team.
Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness, who have led the club for several decades, confirm they will continue to oversee the club until everything is perfectly in order before handing over to their successors.
