Ryan Reynolds recalled an awkward FaceTime with David Beckham during Wrexham’s FA Cup clash with Chelsea, a story he later revisited on air.
According to Wales Online, Reynolds and fellow co-owner Rob Mac discussed it before kick-off while co-commentating for Sky Sports at the STōK Cae Ras.
On 7 March at the Racecourse Ground, Wrexham finished normal time at 2-2 and with 10 men after George Dobson’s 93rd-minute dismissal. In extra time, Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea progressed through Alejandro Garnacho and João Pedro, setting up a quarter-final with Port Vale.
The pair said the noise made conversation difficult as they adjusted their commentary kit, and a group FaceTime with Beckham devolved into exaggerated expressions when he could not hear them.
Reynolds reflected that, despite the result, the occasion felt like a watershed for club and town, noting the respect as players from both sides chatted on the pitch afterwards.
With the cup run over, Wrexham beat Swansea City 2-0 on Friday. They now sit sixth in the Championship with nine matches left, holding the fourth and final play-off spot, six points ahead of Southampton and Derby, while the Saints have a game in hand.
