Ryunosuke Sato has landed at Manises from Tokyo to finalise his move to Valencia. According to Superdeporte, the 19-year-old is due to undergo a medical before signing.

He will then join pre-season under Carlos Corberán at Paterna, with Guido Rodríguez having reported this morning.

On arrival, Sato said he was delighted and excited after speaking with Corberán. He believes it can be a good campaign and is ready to play wide or as a No 10.

Valencia are expected to make the transfer official shortly, with a fee of around four million euros agreed with FC Tokyo. He turned down Feyenoord to prioritise Mestalla.

He played 19 matches this season for FC Tokyo, scoring six goals and providing one assist. He has five senior caps for Japan.

At 1.71 metres he is valued for movement, speed and attacking runs from the flank. His profile fits recruitment led by Ron Gourlay and Lisandro Isei, and he must now win Corberán’s trust.

FC Tokyo bid him farewell on Thursday at an event attended by about 500 fans, having already announced his imminent transfer and his withdrawal from team activities from 5 July.

Sato will be the first Japanese player in Valencia’s first team. Hiroshi Ibusuki and Wadi Suzuki were in the academy but never made a senior debut.

He is one of four arrivals for the 26/27 squad alongside Justin de Haas, Aliou Dieng and Guido Rodríguez. Valencia have also exercised their option to buy Stole Dimitrievski.
