The 54-year-old Tunisia coach Sabri Lamouchi has reportedly been sacked after a 5-1 defeat by Sweden in their World Cup opener. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, reports on Monday said he was to be sacked mid-tournament.

Lamouchi is well known to Leeds United followers after guiding Nottingham Forest to an 8 February 2020 victory at the City Ground. Marcelo Bielsa later spoke of belief ebbing around his team and Luke Ayling delivered a distraught post-match interview.

That defeat left Leeds with one win in six. A few days later they drew 1-1 at Brentford, then won five on the bounce and 12 of their final 14 to be crowned champions.

Forest managed only three wins in their last 15 and finished seventh, missing out on a play-off place on goal difference. Lamouchi was dismissed in October 2020, then coached Al-Duhail, spent half a season at Cardiff City, was sacked by both Al-Riyadh and Al-Diriyah, and took the Tunisia job in January.

Tunisia now face an uphill task in Group F, with Japan and the Netherlands still to come.
