Umar Sadiq can count himself a Copa del Rey winner too after Real Sociedad beat Atlético. According to AS, he is set to receive a small share of the squad bonus, having contributed at the outset. On Saturday he marked the victory from his home in Valencia.

The striker featured in the first two rounds for La Real, facing Negreira and Reus, and struck in stoppage time against Reus, before moving to Valencia. That early involvement means he can also lay some claim to the success.

His focus now is Valencia and the present. Last season he proved decisive in lifting the club away from trouble and keeping European hopes alive into the run-in. Arriving at Mestalla in the winter window of 2025, he quickly won over supporters, scoring five league goals and one in the cup as the club longed to keep him in the summer, but he only returned mid-season.

This term has been tougher. By this point last year he had already reached five league goals, against Villarreal, an Osasuna brace, Valladolid and Rayo Vallecano. Now he has only one in the league, against Levante in the derby.

He signed for Valencia permanently last January for four million euros, making an extra effort to come back, though he did not expect his impact to dip. Corberán has started him in five matches since his arrival. With Hugo Duro carrying niggles, Sadiq hopes to rediscover the scoring touch that secured survival and had Mestalla on its feet only months ago.
