Liverpool ended their five-game Premier League winless run after claiming a 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield on Saturday evening.
There was no attempt at either end until the 18th minute, when Nick Pope saved Hugo Ekitike’s left-footed shot from outside the area.
Harvey Barnes came closest to breaking the deadlock within the first half-hour, hitting the post.
Pope made a superb stop to keep the scoreline goalless, punching Ekitike’s attempted chip away.
Moments later, Newcastle broke the deadlock with a fast break, Gordon firing into the far corner.
Ekitike restored parity for the hosts on 41 minutes, after Florian Wirtz showed brilliant footwork to cut back for the Frenchman to apply the finish.
Two minutes later, Ekitike completed the turnaround with a sublime finish, receiving a long pass from Milos Kerkez to slot the ball home to make it 2-1.
Alexis McAllister glanced a header wide from a free-kick as Liverpool finished the first half as the stronger side.
Ekitike should have given Liverpool a two-goal cushion early in the second half, sending his effort wide from a one-on-one situation.
Wirtz made it 3-1 after the hour mark, combining with Mohamed Salah, before swiveling a first-time finish past Pope.
Salah now has 10 goals and 10 assists against the Magpies, becoming the first player in Premier League history to reach double figures for both goals and assists against a single opponent.
The German midfielder nearly returned the favour shortly afterwards, slipping the Egyptian through, but the latter could only prod his effort wide.
Ibrahima Konate capped the scoring in stoppage time, sealing an emphatic victory for the reigning champions.
