Sam Byram says he wants to play regularly next season as his Leeds United contract approaches its end next month.
“Yeah, I think get the job done here. You know, I'm confident that, you know, we'll see that out. And then for me, you know, I still think I've got a few years ahead playing football.” He added: “I'd like to play regularly if I can.” He was speaking to the Official Leeds United podcast.
The 32-year-old is one of four permanent Leeds players out of contract at the end of next month, the others are all goalkeepers. He returned to West Yorkshire in 2023 on a one-year deal with an appearance-triggered 12-month extension, then signed fresh terms last July.
Across two Championship seasons under Daniel Farke, he started 45 games in all competitions and made 30 substitute appearances. Promotion to the Premier League prompted recruitment, and Byram slipped down the pecking order.
He played eight minutes off the bench at Arsenal in August and has not featured in the league since. His only start came in a Carabao Cup penalty-shootout defeat to Sheffield Wednesday that month, followed by late FA Cup cameos against Derby County and Norwich City.
Reflecting on his return, Byram said: “Then to get the opportunity to come back and be involved with the last few years has just been unbelievable.” He added: “It's been a whirlwind really.” Leeds are expected to strengthen their full-back areas this summer, with a decision on his future to follow.
