Not long ago, Sampdoria were a known side in Serie A but now find themselves in the doldrums in the second division. Instability has been a constant theme and the club are now considering the shock appointment of former Tottenham interim manager Ryan Mason.
La Repubblica – via ClubDoria46, have reported that Samp have decided to not continue with Attilio Lombardo at the helm. They have finished 13th in the second division, 11 points away from the top six.
Mason is in pole position to become the next manager, despite having been in charge of West Bromwich Albion only for some months after an exit from Tottenham.
Samp CEO Jesper Fredberg has been a keen observer of his and he even wanted him during his time at Anderlecht. Even if Mason’s managerial track record isn’t stellar, he remains very interested in having him at his club.
Since Mason is in not in a job, a move for him will not be complex. The case is similar to that of Ashley Cole, who was pretty much a free agent and hadn’t managed a first-team before.
A move to Samp can offer Mason with a completely new environment and a low-key atmosphere to rebuild his career after the sacking at West Brom. The only problem is Samp themselves, who aren’t a promising club to work at in the modern day.
