Samuel Soares is impressing Marco Silva at Benfica and will be preferred to Anatoliy Trubin in goal this season after asking for more minutes.

Record writes that, despite limited minutes in recent years, the 24-year-old retains full backing internally, with his ability with the ball at his feet seen as a clear edge over Trubin, and that Benfica would be ready to negotiate if an offer around €40m arrives.

His dedication and professionalism have also been noted inside the club. He made his first-team debut on the final matchday of the 2022/23 Liga under Roger Schmidt, a decision that confirmed him among the champions.

Since then he has been the main deputy to Trubin, used largely in the Taça de Portugal. Now, as 2026/27 begins, he could finally secure a bigger role.

Soares is contracted until 2028 and a standout season could trigger fresh renewal talks. Trubin’s future, meanwhile, remains unresolved.
