After more than 12 months of talks, AC Milan and Inter have acquired the ownership of San Siro and the surrounding areas.
According to FCInter1908, the city’s seal of approval has laid the groundwork for construction to begin.
Indeed, this historic deal sees the Milan clubs fork out around €197 million to complete the purchase.
Then, work on the new stadium will start in the first half of 2027 in the current Meazza parking lot.
Crews will set up a large construction site nearby, affecting the Patroclo tunnel behind San Siro, which they plan to move.

Moreover, the new stadium, set to open in 2031, will meet UEFA’s modern standards.
Indeed, that’s one of the reasons Milan and Inter were desperate to design a new venue.
With San Siro out of date, the city was at risk of being ruled out of contention for hosting EURO 2032.
However, the new stadium will be eligible to host major international events, including EURO matches.
