Italian midfielder becomes Spurs’ fifth signing of the summer transfer window - with more arrivals on the way
Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali for a club-record £100million fee.
Standard Sport understands that the Italian international is set to sign a long-term contract to join Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
It is understood that Tottenham will pay £92.5m up front plus a further £7.5m in potential add-ons based around multiple Champions League qualifications, taking the deal to £100m if all bonues are met.
Spurs sources have meanwhile denied that they have received a bid from Newcastle for Archie Gray despite reports stating that they had rejected an offer from the Magpies.
Tonali is set to become the latest player through the doors at Spurs following the arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka.
West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes is also expected to join Spurs after the two clubs agreed an £85m deal for the 21-year-old on Tuesday.
Fernandes and Tonali are both scheduled to undergo medicals in the coming days.

Tottenham are making big moves
London Standard
Spurs have been aggressive in the transfer market despite avoiding relegation on the final day of the Premier League season and have moved quickly to bring in another of De Zerbi’s targets.
Tonali is said to have been convinced by the project on offer under De Zerbi, who wants to get Spurs challenging back towards the top of the table after successive 17th-place finishes.
Manchester City and Arsenal were also reported to be interested in Tonali, but the 26-year-old looks to have picked Spurs after multiple advances from the north London club.
Spurs will hope to have Tonali and Fernandes involved when their pre-season preparations get underway on Friday July, 10.
