President of Santos, Marcelo Teixeira finally spoke out about a possible transfer involving Neymar. With a contract with Peixe valid until the end of the year, rumors emerged about the star moving to MLS. However, the executive said he is unaware of any offer for the No. 10, but left the star’s future in his own hands.

“As of today, I’m not aware of any offers, but they should come up. The one who should decide whether he stays at Santos, playing or not, is Neymar with his staff and his father. Santos’ interest is for him to fulfill his contract through December of this year. We have a project with him on and off the field. Naturally, what Santos is doing today is working to help Neymar represent Brazil at the World Cup,” he said.

Last week, The Athletic reported FC Cincinnati’s interest in signing Neymar. The talks are said to be at an early stage, and the parties are still evaluating the idea of the No. 10 playing in the United States, in MLS.

Controversial agreement

Marcelo Teixeira also commented on the recent agreement with NR Sports for the payment of a R$ 90.5 million debt, which caused controversy because the president’s re-election and Santos’ youth academy training center were required as guarantees in the contract.

“We have already made two amendments to Neymar’s original contract. The relationship is based on trust between the parties; it is not political, and it is not conditional on re-election, despite being included in the contract at NR Sports’ request. NR expects the agreement of 48 installments to be followed and fulfilled. If it is fulfilled, even without Marcelo Teixeira, it will not be necessary for me to be re-elected, nor for the training center guarantee,” he explained.
