The São Paulo Court of Justice has convicted three Mancha Alviverde members over the August 2024 invasion of Palmeiras’ Academia de Futebol training ground, according to Globo.com.
Jorge Luis Sampaio dos Santos, then the group’s president, plus vice-presidents Felipe Mattos dos Santos and Thiago Amorim de Melo were the defendants. Felipe and Thiago received seven and six months respectively in an open regime, while Jorge was handed eight months in a semi-open regime. All three must also pay a fine and complete community service.
The defence argued there was no intent and that the evidence was insufficient for conviction, but judge Sergio Duarte rejected this. In his ruling he said forcing entry showed direct intent to breach the privacy and security of the workplace, and that claims they only wanted to talk and entered peacefully were not supported by the evidence.
The verdict comes around two months after the complaint was accepted by the TJ-SP on 22 January. Palmeiras football director Anderson Barros and Richard Bezerra, operations manager at the Academia de Futebol, gave evidence.
On the afternoon of 1 August 2024, about 20 Mancha Alviverde supporters entered the site after an open gate allowed access, causing apprehension among staff. They sought to speak with team leaders and head coach Abel Ferreira but did not reach internal areas, leaving about 30 minutes later. The club filed a police report at the time.
Club president Leila Pereira has been at odds with Mancha Alviverde since the start of her tenure in 2022.
