A São Paulo court has rejected Augusto Melo’s urgent application to annul the vote expelling him from Corinthians’ membership. Identidade Corinthiana first reported the denial, and Melo’s lawyer confirmed it to Itatiaia on Wednesday.

Lawyer Ricardo Jorge said the civil court in Tatuapé declined the request. He added the case was filed hours before Monday’s Parque São Jorge meeting and the merits will still be examined.

The judge required formal proof of the club’s decision, such as the meeting minutes or an official document, and found the current record insufficient for urgent relief.

Melo’s defence cites intimidation of then interim president Osmar Stabile during 31 May last year, when supporters tried to reinstate Melo. It also alleges bias by Leonardo Pantaleão, who allegedly headed the Ethics Commission while presiding over the Deliberative Council.

His camp says the ruling does not reach the merits and rests only on missing club documentation.

On Monday the Deliberative Council voted 147 to five to expel Melo. Votes on Maria Angela Ocampos, Mario Mello Junior, Paulo Juricic and Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé were postponed.

Elected in 2024, Melo stayed in office until May 2025, when he was impeached amid the VaideBet case, then removed in August and replaced by Stabile. He is the third former president to leave the membership in a week, after Andrés Sanchez’s expulsion and Duilio Monteiro Alves’s resignation.
