According to Globo.com, the São Paulo court rejected an appeal by the Federação Paulista de Futebol on Wednesday morning and kept the presidential election, scheduled for the afternoon, suspended.
The vote has been challenged over alleged irregularities in how the current statute was approved. The rules allow Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos to seek another term, and he was set to run unopposed.
An amateur league from Mauá brought the case and obtained the suspension on Tuesday in a ruling by appeals judge Débora Vanessa Caús Brandão.
The same magistrate upheld the measure after the FPF appealed, stating that disputes over the statute must first be examined in an arbitral court before any assembly takes place.
Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos has led the FPF since 2015. He was the only candidate to file a slate this year, with the statute requiring support from 12 clubs, five from A-1, three from A-2, two from A-3, one from the Segunda Divisão and one amateur league.
Lawyer Wilson Marquetti, a former prosecutor at São Paulo’s sports justice tribunal, attempted to mount an opposition bid but did not secure the required endorsements.
