Maurizio Sarri is leaning towards accepting an offer from Atalanta, but his negotiations with Lazio president Claudio Lotito might not be straightforward.

Maurizio Sarri Has Offers from Atalanta & Napoli

The manager has been identified as Napoli’s first choice to replace Antonio Conte, who is expected to leave the club in the coming days. However, incoming Atalanta sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli entered the fray, and he’s been trying to convince the 67-year-old to sign for the Lombardian club. The two men had worked together during their time at Napoli.

Sarri had asked his two suitors for a few days of reflection before making his final decision, and also to find an agreement with Lazio on a contract termination.

Sarri Edging Closer to Atalanta

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Atalanta are now the favorites to secure Sarri’s signature. The Tuscan manager might be tempted by a return to Naples, but he also doesn’t want to blemish all the good memories he left during his first spell at the club between 2015 and 2018.

Moreover, the Orobici have reportedly offered Sarri a more lucrative salary than Napoli’s €2.7 million per season plus bonuses. Furthermore, the Partenopei are only offering the manager a two-year deal, whereas Atalanta are ready to commit to a long-term deal.

Sarri Set for Crunch Talks with Claudio Lotito

While all signs point towards a move to Bergamo, Sarri must first free himself from his contract with Lazio. Pedulla, who shares a great rapport with the former Chelsea coach, reminds his friend that he was the one who insisted on signing a three-year deal with the Biancocelesti, suggesting that this long-term commitment with Lotito was perhaps ill-advised.

Sarri May Have to Make Financial Sacrifice to Terminate Lazio Contract

In any case, Sarri will meet with the Lazio president at the start of the week, perhaps as early as Monday, in the hopes of finding a solution. Based on previous experience, Lotito might ask the head coach to waive a few months’ salary to grant him his wish.
