FA Cup tips and predicitions

12:15 - Wolves v Shrewsbury: Back Shrews cards

Paul Higham: Lowly Wolves could be FA Cup upset candidates on paper but they've played well the last few games and 12/1 Shrewsbury, with just one win away in League Two this season, aren't the side to upset anyone on the road this season. The Shrews are, though, experts at getting cards - the joint-most yellows in League Two no less and they've had four or more cards in four of their past eight away games.

15:00 - Borehamwood v Burton: Back non-leaguers

The Opta Stat:

Borehamwood have won their last two FA Cup ties this season both 3-0, beating Crawley in the first round and Newport in the second round. Since the creation of the Football League in 1888, there hasn't been a single non league team who've won three FA Cup games in a row (first round onwards) by a margin of 3+ goals each time (excl. void matches).

Back Borehamwood

15:00 - Newcastle v Bournemouth: Back Cherries to KO Magpies

The Opta Stat:

Newcastle have lost their last four FA Cup third round matches against Premier League opposition (2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2020-21), last progressing against a fellow top-flight side in 2011-12 when they beat Blackburn.

Bournemouth have won their last four away matches in the FA Cup, their best ever away winning run in the competition, with two of those wins coming at Premier League teams - Burnley in February 2021 and Everton in February 2025.

17:30 - Spurs v Aston Villa: Value lies with the visitors

Joe Dyer: As ever, team selection will be crucial here, but should both line up with a competitive first XI  - and it's plausible both clubs will entertain hopes of lifting the cup this year - then I would have to favour the visitors. Villa have won the last three clashes between the two sides, beating Spurs 2-1 in north London earlier this season and by the same scoreline in the fourth round of this competition last year. Spurs' home record is famously awful and with winning memories fresh in the mind against Saturday's opponents it does not take a huge leap to envision Villa making it four defeats of Spurs on the spin.

Certainly at the prices the 7/5 is tempting whether as a single, part of a third round ACCA or a bet builder in this game. It will not take much for the crowd to get on the home team's backs so unless Tottenham are impeccable from start to finish Villa should be well in the match.

The previous game between the two finished 2-1 as did last year's FA Cup fourth round clash. With the potential for team changes - think Kevin Danso and Ben Davies at the back for the home side - I fancy the overs to land.

Mixing up the match odds and over-under verdicts you can back Villa win & Over 2.5 goals at 3/1 or play it safer with Villa-Draw on the double chance & Over 2.5 at 7/4. The latter covers any Villa win featuring three goals or more in the match or all draws from 2-2 up.

EFL tips and predictions

15:00 L1 - Leyton Orient v Cardiff: Bluebirds to swoop in 30/1 treble

Alan Dudman: I opposed Orient for their postponed match on Sunday and it doesn't look any easier for the Londoners with the League One leaders Cardiff in town, a team that can boast the best away defence in the third tier.

Now, we're going for goals here, which is slightly against the run of play in terms of Cardiff's backline, as they have conceded just nine all season from their 11 away fixtures, but it's Orient that are the big problem.

Richie Wellens' side haven't kept a clean sheet in their last six and look very short on confidence and numbers with a thin squad and so few options. While Cardiff boasts xG and xA figures both at 1.45, Orient's xA at 1.36 is worse than the goal expected at 1.31 and it's very hard to get away from another Bluebirds win.

The England v Wales mini-battle is also a disaster for the hosts, as when playing in the third tier, Leyton Orient have won just one of their last 12 league games against sides from Wales (D3 L8), scoring just one goal across their five home matches during that time.
