Atalanta have reached personal terms with Savona, clearing the way for negotiations with Nottingham Forest over a transfer, Sportitalia reports.

The 23-year-old moved to the Premier League only last year for €13 plus add-ons after progressing from Juventus’ academy to the senior squad. He posted two goals and two assists across 20 competitive appearances, but his campaign was curtailed by a serious knee injury.

The next step is agreement between the clubs on the fee, which could take the form of a loan with an option to buy that may become an obligation.

The overall outlay is expected to come in around €14-15m, with 10 per cent of that due to Juventus.

Capable at right-back, wing-back or centre-back, Savona has been called up by the senior Italy squad without making his debut. His arrival could in turn allow Raoul Bellanova to depart, with Fulham interested at around €25m.
