Sean Dyche distances himself from Rangers job as Steven Gerrard hints at return | OneFootball

Former Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche has ruled himself out of the running to become the next Rangers head coach, Sky Sports reports, as the Ibrox club begins its search for a successor to the recently dismissed Russell Martin.

Dyche, 54, is currently out of work following his departure from Everton earlier this year and is said to have maintained a strong professional relationship with Rangers sporting director Kevin Thelwell. However, despite speculation linking him to the vacancy, sources close to Dyche have made it clear that he is “not interested at this time.”

Rangers remain in the early stages of drawing up a shortlist, with several candidates under consideration. Hearts boss Derek McInnes, whose side sit top of the Scottish Premiership after an unbeaten start, is reportedly admired by figures within the Ibrox hierarchy. Yet, no formal approach has been made.

Russell Martin’s sacking on Sunday, just 123 days into his tenure, came after a dismal run that left Rangers eighth in the league. His tenure ended in chaotic scenes following a 1-1 draw at Falkirk, where police escorted him from the stadium amid fan unrest.

Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard has fueled speculation about a potential return. Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former Rangers title-winning boss admitted he has “unfinished business” in management and would “jump at the right opportunity.”

However, Gerrard is thought to be in no rush to return to the dugout, citing personal reasons and a desire to assemble his preferred coaching staff.
