Stefan Ortega could make his Nottingham Forest debut at Elland Road, with Sean Dyche ready to start the goalkeeper if required against Leeds United on Friday night.
Ortega signed a short-term contract last Sunday after moving from Manchester City. He was presented to the City Ground crowd before kick-off against Crystal Palace, then saw first-choice Matz Sels suffer a groin issue. According to Nottingham Post, Sels is now a doubt for the trip to Leeds.
Angus Gunn replaced Sels at half-time against Palace, but Ortega is in contention to get the nod this time.
The German has not played since starting for Manchester City against Al Ain in the Club World Cup last June. Dyche is unconcerned by the lay-off or any adjustment from the style favoured by Pep Guardiola.
He says Ortega’s record is strong, he has settled quickly, and he believes Forest’s goalkeepers can slot in when called upon.
Guardiola previously rated Ortega highly in one-on-one situations, and Dyche joked that if Pep says so, he will take it, adding he hopes that proves helpful.
Dyche added that he did not need to consult Manchester City about the signing, saying Forest trust their goalkeeping department led by Billy Mercer, whose experience and judgement he values.
