Sébastien Pocognoli has assembled a complementary backroom trio with Kévin Mirallas and Artur Kopyt at Monaco, built on trust and detail, as ASM visit Lyon on Sunday 22 March at 15:00.

According to Nice-Matin, the Belgian coach leans on two lieutenants he brought from Union Saint-Gilloise alongside the existing staff. Mirallas’ time with Lille and Saint-Etienne makes him better known in France, though Pocognoli is capped and has played for leading European clubs.

The trio first worked together last season at Union, with Polish assistant Kopyt from a modest playing background. Pocognoli says he delegates widely, believes a staff thrives on responsibility, and sees his job as aligning tasks.

Goalkeeper Anthony Moris, at Union from 2020 to 2025, portrays Pocognoli as mentally driven and obsessive about detail, even rewatching sessions three or four times to understand flaws. He calls the coaching team well balanced.

Kopyt, initially focused on forwards, grew into the architect of set plays. Union invested in him and his inventiveness brought results, while at Monaco, alongside fellow specialist Abel Lorincz, he mainly handles attacking routines.

Mirallas linked up with Pocognoli last season to revive a misfiring attack, and their long friendship lets him bridge the gap to the dressing room. The former Belgium international, capped 60 times, is credited with sharp observation and ideas.

He even compiled a reel of his own missed chances to show strikers that mistakes happen, building trust through simple steps. That approach has benefited Folarin Balogun, who is in outstanding form for Monaco.
