Senegal have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against CAF’s decision to award CAN 2025 to Morocco by forfeit, the tribunal said on Wednesday.
The federation is seeking to have the ruling annulled and to be declared champions. An arbitral panel will be appointed, then a procedural timetable set, and no hearing date is fixed.
On 18 January in Rabat, several Senegal players briefly left the pitch to protest at a Morocco penalty given in second-half stoppage time after an earlier Senegal goal was disallowed. They returned after about 15 minutes of confusion, with unrest in the stands as Senegalese fans threw objects and tried to enter the field, and Brahim Diaz missed the penalty.
Senegal then won 1-0 in extra time through Pape Gueye. In late January, CAF’s disciplinary jury fined both federations for unsporting conduct, totalling several hundred thousand euros, without overturning the result.
On 17 March, CAF’s appeals body ruled Senegal had forfeited the final and recorded the score as 3-0 to the hosts.
