Senegal launch major appeal after being stripped of Africa Cup of Nations title
The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) has lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) against the decision to overturn the Africa Cup of Nations final result.
Cas confirmed it has received the FSF's appeal and will appoint a three-person panel to consider the matter, with a procedural calendar to be established.
This appeal follows a ruling by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Appeal Board, which stripped Senegal of their title and awarded it to Morocco.
Senegal was deemed to have forfeited the match after their players returned to the dressing room for 14 minutes in protest of a controversial late penalty awarded to hosts Morocco.
According to Afcon regulations, a team that refuses to play or leaves the ground before the end of a match without authorisation is declared the loser, resulting in a 3-0 win for their opponents.
