Manchester United’s need for a new goalkeeper was made apparent when Altay Bayindir committed that high-profile error against Arsenal last Sunday.
Despite the Red Devils completely dominating, that first-half mistake allowed the Gunners to leave Old Trafford with all three points.
Naturally, the Turk was criticized by pundits and ex-players, but Ruben Amorim backed him to come good. However, despite the public vote of confidence, there are murmurs that Andre Onana might be reinstated in goal for the Fulham clash.
That could potentially break his confidence, but that might not be the end of his troubles. As relayed by The Peoples Person, the 20-time English league champions are now eyeing Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp.
And the Belgian’s arrival could mean the end of the Turkiye international’s stay in Manchester. The deal is progressing as per Centredevils with face-to-face talks taking place between the club and the goalie.
The 23-year-old is expected to compete with Onana once he arrives. He was excellent last season, helping keep 10 clean sheets.
Senne Lammens figured in the 93rd percentile for saves, and in the 99th percentile for crosses stopped (stats via fbref). That highlights his command over the six-yard box, something both United shot-stoppers lack.
“CentreDevils can exclusively reveal that Senne Lammens’ representatives have held face-to-face talks with a Manchester United delegation in recent days, with all parties wanting a fast resolution.
“The Red Devils want to be fast to beat competition with Lammens pushing too. There is an internal feeling of confidence regarding the deal for the Belgian now, with the club seeing Lammens as a goalkeeper for the future and someone who can compete right now with Andre Onana.
“With this strategy, Amorim can successfully manage rotation and keep training competitive, which could eventually help the squad in a season full of games.
“Lammens’ possible arrival demonstrates United’s dedication to long-term planning by striking a balance between short-term performance demands and long-term goalkeeping succession planning.”
The Old Trafford side certainly need a new reliable shot-stopper given the form issues of both Onana and Bayindir. Senne Lammens will be a low-cost option to come in as compared to Emiliano Martinez, and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
