Curtis Jones Transfer Latest as Inter Milan Test Liverpool’s Resolve

Inter Milan are doing what smart clubs do. They have identified a player with quality, versatility and resale value, then moved when the contract situation gives them leverage. According to Caught Offside, the Italian champions are stepping up their pursuit of Curtis Jones and believe they can land him for less than Liverpool want.

This is where the numbers matter. Inter are reportedly ready to go to around €35 million, while Liverpool want closer to €40 million. That is not some dramatic gulf. In modern transfer terms, it is a small gap and usually the sort that gets closed by add-ons, structure, or a future sell-on clause.

Inter Milan See Value in Curtis Jones

The logic is obvious. Jones gives Inter energy, press resistance and the ability to play in multiple midfield roles. If Davide Frattesi leaves, they need someone who can carry the ball and cope with the demands of a top side. Jones fits that profile. He also brings Premier League experience, which carries weight when clubs assess whether a player can handle pressure.

Liverpool, for their part, are reluctant to lose an academy graduate, particularly one appreciated by Andoni Iraola. That makes sense too. Homegrown players matter, and Jones has qualities that managers trust. Still, if a player is entering the final year of his deal, sentiment only goes so far. Clubs either renew, sell, or accept diminished control.

Liverpool Face Pressure from Rivals

Inter may feel urgency because other clubs are circling. Tottenham have been linked, Nottingham Forest have shown interest, and Arsenal have also been mentioned. That changes the equation. From a concerned Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this is the sort of story that creates frustration because it feels avoidable. Curtis Jones is not a fringe body to shift for convenience. He is homegrown, understands the club, and gives you reliable depth across midfield. Those players are harder to replace than people think, especially when you start looking at the market and seeing ordinary options priced at £30 million and above.

If the contract is genuinely running down, then the club have left themselves exposed. That is the blunt truth. You either commit to the player earlier or you cash in from a position of strength. Letting it drift to the final year invites exactly this kind of opportunism from a club like Inter.

There is also a football point here. Iraola will need energy, intelligence and flexibility in midfield. Jones gives you all three. He may not start every week, but not every useful player has to be a guaranteed starter. Liverpool need a squad, not just an XI.

If Inter want him, fine. Pay the full value. If they will not, Liverpool should be perfectly comfortable keeping him, using him and trying to renew. Selling good academy players too cheaply is bad business and worse squad building.
