Napoli are officially in the Champions League after sweeping Pisa aside 3-0 with Scott McTominay, Amir Rrahmani and Rasmus Hojlund goals.

The Partenopei wasted last week’s opportunity to lock down a top four finish with a 3-2 home defeat to Bologna, so needed a victory here. Kevin De Bruyne was only ready for the bench after a head injury in training left him with stitches, plus Matteo Politano suspended and Romelu Lukaku injured. David Neres returned to the squad four months after surgery, but Vanja Milinkovic-Savic was benched.

Pisa had Felipe Loyola and Rosen Bozhinov suspended, plus Daniel Denoon, Matteo Tremoni and Francesco Coppola sidelined.

Eljif Elmas saw an early volley charged down, but after having 80 per cent possession in the first 20 minutes, they broke through with Scott McTominay’s snooker shot from the edge of the area going in off the inside of the far post.

The second goal saw Amir Rrahmani rise to nod down the Elmas corner, and while Adrian Semper made the save, he failed to stop it squirming over the line first.

Semper did better when flying to push the Elmas strike over the bar, but Alex Meret had to rush off his line for a desperate save on Stojilkovic after Alessandro Buongiorno’s error.

Meret was also alert in the second half as Stefano Moreo latched onto a loose ball, but Rasmus Hojlund ended his month-long goal drought by being ready to meet the Pasquale Mazzocchi low cross from the right.
