Serie A referee Antonio Giua performed below expectations in Monday’s clash between Inter Milan and Como.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInter1908, Giua’s subpar performance affected both teams.
Following a goalless first half, Simone Inzaghi’s side bagged a second-half double to take three points.
Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram scored for the home team as Inter tallied a fourth successive league win.
However, Giua’s refereeing wasn’t up to Serie A’s high standard.
On the contrary, he made numerous dubious decisions throughout the match.
Luckily, his calls didn’t affect the outcome.
Giua’s first wrong decision came at the expense of Como midway through the first half.
He stopped the play to hand Yann Bisseck a yellow card, even though the visitors had a chance to catch Inter on the break.
Indeed, his poor choice denied Como a rare opportunity to breach Inter’s defense.
But he also failed to award Inter a free kick from a promising position close to the halftime whistle.
Nico Paz’s handball near Como’s penalty area went unnoticed despite vigorous appeals from the Nerazzurri players.
Furthermore, he took ages to disallow Lautaro Martinez’s goal for an obvious offside position.
