Sevilla’s turbulent league run has led to the departure of Matías Almeyda after the home defeat to Valencia, yet recruitment plans are pressing ahead under sporting director Antonio Cordón.

According to La Colina De Nervion, Sevilla have three deals in place for next season: Ecuadorian playmaker Patrik Mercado for about €6 million, full-back Juan Iglesias from Getafe on a free, and centre-back Arouna Sangante, also arriving at no cost.

The club are also working on the signing of Marius Marin from Pisa, a holding midfielder identified to add balance to a midfield that will lose important players in the summer. Marin’s contract expires next summer, so he would join on a free.

Optimism has been checked by injuries. Mercado was taken off on a stretcher in his latest match for Independiente del Valle and will undergo further tests on Monday to determine the extent of the problem.

Marin suffered an injury on 15 March against Cagliari and will miss Romania’s World Cup play-off. Even so, Sevilla’s planning for the next campaign continues.
