Sevilla’s austerity drive could produce an unexpected U-turn, with the club no longer ruling out retaining Alexis Sánchez for next season, El Desmarque reports.
Squad building will be complicated in the coming window. José Ignacio Navarro is set to shape the new team alongside Luis García Plaza, barring a radical twist.
Sánchez earned the chance to extend his stay through his commitment in the season’s most delicate spell. He arrived late in the last window, brought in by Antonio Cordón and Matías Almeyda, after parting with Udinese Calcio. He signed on a minimum wage to add leadership when the team were wobbling, and he delivered.
His standout moments included a vital goal against Real Sociedad and an assist for Akor Adams to secure three points versus RCD Espanyol. His pressing and recovery sparked the decisive 2-3 at Villarreal’s Estadio de La Cerámica, where survival was confirmed.
At 37, any deal would depend on him keeping the low salary he accepted on arrival. Tactically, the Tocopilla native would need to embrace a complementary role, coming on late to unpick matches with his technical quality.
An exit had long seemed certain for expiring contracts, with only captain Nemanja Gudelj expected to reopen talks. After Sánchez’s strong finish, however, his future is open, and he turns 38 in December. The summer’s updates will determine how this case is resolved.
