Celtic has LOST their appeal against the red card shown to Auston Trusty at Tynecastle on Sunday afternoon. The Champions appealed the decision yesterday afternoon and a fast-track hearing was set for today but is has been UNSUCCESSFUL and Trusty will now sit out the game against Falkirk this week as he serves his suspension.

The Scottish FA has just posted this update on their official website regarding Celtic’s appeal against the red card shown to Auston Trusty after a VAR intervention by John Beaton at Tynecastle on Sunday afternoon. Here’s the verdict of the appear as per official Scottish FA website.

Competition: Scottish Premiership

Offence: A4 – Denying the opposing team or an opponent a goal or an obvious goal scoring opportunity as defined by Law 12

Claim: Wrongful Dismissal

Fast Track Tribunal Hearing: Tuesday, 27 January 2026

Outcome: Claim dismissed. Red card for sending off offence A4 – Denying the opposing team or an opponent a goal or an obvious goal scoring opportunity as defined by Law 12, is re-imposed with immediate effect. £650 Appeal Deposit to be paid within 30 days.

The American central defender will now be suspended for Celtic’s match against Falkirk at Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon.

Numerous former referees have criticised the decision by John Beaton to get involved at all as the VAR after the match referee’s on-field decision was a yellow card.  The four key “DOGSO” criteria are listed below. It is clear that the ball was moving towards the side and not directly at goal and would have to be retrieved giving  two Celtic defenders time to cover.

Anyone with any knowledge of the way the Scottish game operates will hardly be surprised at today closing of ranks behind John Beaton and we will await what excuses that Wille Collum comes up with when he does his next VAR review show.
