San Lorenzo are interested in signing Vasco midfielder Juan Sforza, who has returned from Juventude and is not in the club’s 2026 plans. According to Globo.com, the Rio side are exploring an exit for the Argentine.
The interest has intensified in recent days, and Vasco are not expected to oppose a deal. The move is aimed at giving Sforza more minutes after he lost his place in 2025 and failed to convince Fernando Diniz’s staff.
Signed at the start of 2024 to be a starter in a move led by Alexandre Mattos, Sforza cost around R$ 25 million. He spent most of his first season as a reserve, with Hugo Moura and Mateus Carvalho preferred. He had arrived amid high expectations after a strong Pre-Olympic with Argentina and a lengthy negotiation with Newell's Old Boys.
In 2025 he played only five times, two in Série A and three in the Campeonato Carioca. He was often left out of matchday squads under Carille, Felipe and Fernando Diniz.
Vasco loaned him to Juventude in mid last year, but he did not string together a run there either. His contract at São Januário runs until the end of 2028. A loan back to Argentine football is viewed positively, given his rise at Newell's Old Boys, where he captained while still young.
