Shakhtar Donetsk ‘to seek’ free transfer for Flamengo’s Ryan Roberto | OneFootball

ESPN Brasil reports that Shakhtar Donetsk are in talks to sign Flamengo forward Ryan Roberto and could complete the deal on a free.

The 18-year-old has yet to agree a contract extension with Flamengo, so the Ukrainian side are attempting to bring him in without a fee.

A key hurdle to renewal is his lack of first-team opportunities. Ryan has not been getting minutes under Leonardo Jardim, who is prioritising more experienced players.

Talks are currently being handled by the academy department rather than senior management. Ryan’s representatives view the absence of top-level executives as a complication in reaching an agreement.

Meanwhile, Flamengo’s first team remain focused on immediate fixtures. They visit Atlético-MG on Sunday 26 in the 13th round of the Brasileirão.
