Shea Charles makes Southampton return amid Leeds United interest | OneFootball

Shea Charles has linked back up with Southampton amid continued Leeds United interest in the 22-year-old Northern Ireland midfielder.

Southampton began pre-season last week and Charles has now reported back after an extended break. Daily Echo reporter Alfie House confirmed his return, and the club’s social media carried training images.

Leeds hope to sign Charles ahead of their second season back in the Premier League. The Whites are playing a waiting game for his signature, and Southampton have rejected approaches so far. The Saints are preparing for a second Championship campaign after being expelled from the play-offs following the Spygate saga.

The new Championship season starts over the weekend of Saturday, August 15. Southampton begin competitive action earlier with a first round Carabao Cup tie at Colchester United on Saturday, August 8.

Charles was granted extra time off after Northern Ireland’s June friendlies against Guinea and France.
