Gustavo Hamer stayed with the Blades in the January transfer window, despite interest, and this can only be a positive for Chris Wilder.
Sheffield United's form has improved considerably in recent weeks, and they are slowly starting to prove that they could be in the top six battle.
There is no denying that his campaign has been one to forget for the most part for those associated with the Blades, but there is still a strong chance of them making their way into the play-off battle, with the likes of Wrexham and Derby County still in touching distance.
A strong January transfer window will delight Chris Wilder, and the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Joe Rothwell have only added to the strength in depth at Bramall Lane. The South Yorkshire outfit have plenty of experience in the middle of the park and they have the perfect opportunity to move up the league table in the coming weeks.
However, there was one bit of work in the transfer window that should not go unnoticed, and that was Sheffield United's ability to keep hold of Gustavo Hamer. While he has not had the best of seasons so far, there is no denying his quality, and he could be a real asset to the club in the run-in.
According to Turkish outlet Fotospor, the midfielder was interested in a potential move to Trabzonspor last month, with Harrison Burrows also targeted by the Karadeniz Fırtınası. However, both players stayed in the Championship, as the Blades look to mount a late play-off challenge.

Sheffield United were happy to let Hamer go if Trabzonspor matched their valuation, but a deal never came to fruition and instead the Dutchman will see out the season in red-and-white. This is not the first time that the 28-year-old has been linked with a Bramall Lane exit, but the club's current position did perhaps make this interest the most real.
Nonetheless, he has stuck around in S2 and will be hoping to make a difference to his team's fortunes after failing to find any sort of consistent form in the first-half of the campaign. Despite this, he has still scored twice and registered seven assists.
Hamer has had a limited chance of Premier League football in his career so far, and staying with Sheffield United may be his best opportunity to return to the top flight, but he needs to continue at the level that he has reached in recent weeks.
The Blades had a shambolic start to 2025/26, winning just one of their first nine league games, and ultimately that is costing them their chance of fighting at the top of the Championship right now.

Hamer looked to have been hit hard by his side's play-off final defeat in May 2025, and his own start to the season was something that left a lot to be desired. However, he has started to get back to his best, and Wilder has seemingly found the key to getting the most out of his midfielder once again.
Hamer added four assists in just three games at the end of January and the start of February, and he is proving that he has not lost the class that saw the likes of Leeds United target him in transfer windows of the past.
But, Hamer has to continue on this path if his side want to get themselves in with a real chance of the top six, otherwise it will all be in vain.
