Sheffield United's Gustavo Hamer is attracting January transfer interest
Sheffield United are not willing to sanction the sale of Gustavo Hamer in January amid fresh Leeds United interest.
According to Football Insider, the Blades are adamant they will not offload the playmaker as they look to get out of the relegation zone in the Championship.
The 28-year-old has been a key figure for the Yorkshire outfit since joining from Coventry City in 2023.
However, his contract with Sheffield United expires in the summer of 2027, which has fuelled speculation over his future in recent windows.
The playmaker has contributed one assist from nine appearances so far in the Championship this season, with Chris Wilder’s side struggling for form.
Sheffield United reportedly have no plans to cash in on Hamer in the upcoming January transfer market, as per Football Insider.
It was previously claimed last week by the same source that Leeds are eyeing a move for the player, as they look to consolidate their place in the Premier League, in a campaign where they've started indifferently.
But it’s believed that the Blades have no intention of letting such an important part of the side go, particularly given the team’s underwhelming form in the league and their aspirations to climb up th Championship table.
Wilder is hoping to utilise Hamer in the club’s bid to overcome their disappointing start to the campaign, with the club currently occupying a relegation spot.
The Blades reached the play-off final last season, but have been unable to replicate that form this term, having earned just six points from their opening 10 games.
Hamer has featured on nine occasions in the Championship, including eight starts, and has registered one assist, but he is set to be sidelined with a knee injury for a period of time, with Chris Wilder describing it as potentially a 'medium-term' lay-off.
The 28-year-old contributed nine goals and seven assists from 41 regular league appearances last season, highlighting his importance to their promotion push as he won the league's Player of the Season award.
But the Blades missed out on automatic promotion to Leeds, before losing to Sunderland in the play-off final.
Sheffield United cashed in on the likes of Vini Souza and Anel Ahmedhodzic in the summer, which has perhaps been part of their problem this season as they've lost the majority of the solid spine of their old side.
The replacements for that particular duo have failed to cut the mustard so far, so losing someone of Hamer’s importance in January would be a further blow.
However, with his contract only running until the summer of 2027, the Blades will feel some pressure on his future as they could be at risk of losing him for very little or even nothing at all.
January could be their last chance to earn a big windfall for Hamer, so if their form steadies between now and then, perhaps a sale could make some sense if Sheffield United are heading for a mid-table finish - there is a lot of football to be played between now and the start of 2026 though.
